land.
I currently reside on the unceded territory of the Chochenyo Ohlone peoples, also known as the Bay Area or Oakland. The acknowledgement is intended to serve as a transformative act to help confront our place on Native Lands and build mindfulness about present day participation in colonial legacies. I honor all Indigenous peoples past, present, and future. As an act of solidarity and reparations, I give Shuumi Land Tax.
labor.
I acknowledge that much of what we know of this country today, including its culture, economic growth, and development throughout history and across time, has been made possible by the labor of enslaved Africans and their ascendants who suffered the horror of the transatlantic trafficking, chattel slavery, and Jim Crow. I know that contemporary struggles for Black lives are connected to these legacies of violence, in which the resulting impact can still be felt and witnessed today.
statement of intent.
I am indebted to the many people and communities that have built (and continue to build) the foundations for the models of transformational leadership and movement work I humbly practice, including the brilliance of Angela Davis, adrienne maree brown, Kai Cheng Thom, Alicia Garza, Loretta J. Ross, Prentis Hemphill and many many others. As a queer, white person who grew up working class, my intent is to uplift and center those most impacted by systems of harm, including those I have no direct lineage to. I will continue to struggle with cultural appropriation and will be mindful of the language I use as I commit to ongoing learning while often stumbling. I welcome any feedback or comments.
